Shower Tunes shower curtain lets you use smart devices while you bathe

It’s a no-brainer that water and electrics don’t mix, but judging from the many waterproof gizmos available, there seems to be this need for people to bring their digital life into the shower. We recently took a look at Kohler’s showerhead speaker, but wouldn’t it be great if you could add sound and vision to your daily washing-up? An easy solution is the $ 40 Shower Tunes curtain , a “gadget” (if you can call it that) that lets you access, watch, and listen to content from a tablet while you scrub your fun parts clean . While the Shower Tunes screams “late-night infomercial,” there’s a simple brilliance to it. A waterproof pouch and battery-powered speakers are sewn into the shower curtain , with an opening on the non-shower side and a transparent film on the other – allowing you to view the your tablet’s screen without getting it wet, while the speakers help drown out your off-key vocals. The pouch is touch-sensitive, so you can do all the things you’d normally do with your finger on...

Lining sheer curtains?

Image
maisoui1 August 25, 2014 Ivory/off white sheers always look so fresh and clean to me. I found someone to make them. She mentioned that she usually lines them that way you could tie back the liner to let the light come through the sheers if you wanted to. I thought about it some more and realize that since these are for the bedrooms, I would like blackout liner . There is a new type of liner out that feels more like a polyester fabric and is actually washable (as opposed to the one that felt kind of plasticky). I think Bed bath and beyond even uses something similar to the new version on its own as a curtain. We are in the tropics so I want a liner to block out light since the sun comes up early. also want to block out noise too. When I went to the store to buy the fabric, the lady in the store was questioning why would I line sheers because then it wouldn't be sheer. Makes sense on one level but is what I am trying to do so weird? If I use a heavier fabric than the sheers plus bl...

The Only Baby Bathtub You’ll Have to Buy

Image
I’m a firm believer in “buy it once and buy it right.” I’d rather wait to save to buy the thing I really want than buy the temporary thing and replace it with what I really wanted later. With that same frame of thought, I’m always searching for products that can work for my kids for as long as possible. I don’t want three baby bathtubs; I want a tub that gets the job done from the first bath until you are ready to put your child free and breezy in the big tub. The Boon SOAK 3-Stage Bathtub is just that—it’s the only baby bathtub you’ll have to buy. The SOAK works from the newborn stage and right into the toddler stage (0 to 18 months). Let’s take a look at how Boon gets it done. First, the tub has an adjustable bump that you can move depending on baby’s size, so baby’s bottom will be supported until she can safely sit upright in the tub. The contoured back angles baby in a comfortable recline, and the non- slip foam back will help keep baby in place. Have you bathed a baby yet? They...

15 Comfy Ideas To Store Towels In Your Bathroom

Image
Bathrooms are often small and storing anything there may be tricky. Towels are a must, which should be somewhere next to your shower or bathtub, and of course you should look for some space- savvy solutions to store them in the bathroom. Here are some ideas that may be of use for you. Shelving Units There are different types of shelves you may try but all of them have a great advantage – they don’t take any floor space. Open shelves aren ’t bulky, which is great for your bathroom look, and they can accommodate a lot. They can be floating somewhere in your space, or you can attach a forged towel holder to save some space. There are great built-in shelves: they can be placed next to the bathtub or shower, so you can easily use them. You can also built-in such shelves as a space divider: divide your shower zone from the sink one with a shelving unit. tall narrow shelf on the wall won't take any floor space and will store many towels" title="a tall narrow shelf on the wal...

Closed for Renovation - Review of Kensington Rooms, London

I booked in advance for this room. Myself and my friend were to perform in a show in Chelsea so we thought we would book somewhere within a 30 minute walking distance . We came across Kensington Rooms on Booking.com we clicked through pictures of the rooms and what not and decided that we quite fancied this place so we would book it. Not an issue. For the two of us for 6 days it cost £342 so £170 each. Not bad. When we checked into the room we shortly discovered that this was not the room in which we had paid for. So I rang the number in which I was given just incase of any problems and the women who answered spoke very basic English which made it near impossible for her to come to terms with what the issue was. I had told her that the room we booked was to have a balcony. She said that the balcony room was below us but someone has already checked into that room earlier that day and has already complained that they did not ask for a balcony room. So we put two and two together and wor...

No hot water or proper heating - Student housing exposed

Significant numbers of students are being hit with unexpected rent hikes and living in accommodation without hot water or proper heating, a study has found, writes Niall Murray . The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) is calling for more publicly supplied, purpose- built student accommodation and better protections for tenants in private accommodation . More than three quarters of the 3,600 students who responded to USI’s survey were living away from home. Although they represent just 1% of the survey group, 38 students told USI they had no accommodation and were sleeping on friends’ couches, floors, in libraries, or even in cars. Another 10% were uncertain of their future in present accommodation when they were surveyed. Around one third of students were in purpose- built facilities , nearly half of them being owned by colleges. Another third were in private rented accommodation , but less than half of these had a written agreement with their landlords. Over a fifth had experience ...

Metallic gold roll top bathtub

Think luxury, timeless and classic. Most Popular Image supplied by Harry Diamond, www.harrydiamondantiques.com 16 May 2017 Nothing screams luxury like a classic roll top bath . Make your bathroom the perfect sanctuary, where after a long day's work you slip off your shoes, fill the bath, light some scented candles and simply relax. Rather surprisingly, the bathroom is the one room in the home where we don't use furniture and decor to our advantage to really reflect our personality. But fear not because it's easily achievable, and a coloured bathtub as a focal point is a good place to start. Into the wild: Renting a cottage in the country can be a refreshing holiday

Image
There’s something refreshing about being taken away from your little home luxuries and forced to make do with your limited means on holidays, writes Kya deLongchamps When we arrived at the cottage in Kerry, indulged by two decades of dry lining and a well- appointed kitchen , I whinged long and loud. A quivering lip from one of my teenage charges pulled me up short. Smiles were applied. ‘How cute is this, girls?’ Pushing through boughs of Japanese knotweed, the front door stuttered inward over rippling lino depicting slate . The air was warm, soupy, fetid. Paint blistered at the base of the walls. Plastic rosaries, balded out over a few decades, swung from lamps and mirror frames. Mildewed prints of the Sacred Heart vied with cheering depictions of the Great Hunger, reminding us in the gathering gloom, how very lucky we were to be saved and have Taytos out of a pull-pack. The lovely elderly lady , managing the place for absent owners, explained that the storage heaters encrusted wi...

Which Would You Rather: Bath or Shower?

Image
Let’s talk dream bathrooms . His and hers sinks are obvious. Heated floors, of course, and toss in the heated towel rods , too. A vanity would be great, to avoid leaning over the sink while applying makeup, and inevitably soaking my blouse. And why not throw in a sound system and flat screen while we’re at it? The only thing left to decide is (drum roll please): bath or shower? Let’s be realistic, most people don’t have the time to draw a bath and linger in soapy suds every day (as lovely as that sounds). Showers are more practical and time efficient. So, which would you rather: a bathtub or a shower? Vote in our poll so we can settle this!

Missing 11-year-old boy found safe

The baby product brand Summer Infant announces a recall 86,000 fabric slings that are attached to Lil’ Luxuries Whirlpool, Bubbling Spa & Shower bathtubs over drowning risks. The lack of an attachment poses an injury and drowning risk to babies, the company says. There have been 91 reports of the slings detaching, including 11 reports of babies bumping their heads, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission . Cottage Bathroom Renovation Before and After

Image
We renovated this bathroom the second year we lived in our home in 2012. Before we renovated, as you can see, it was just unusable! We did these renovations on our own to save a load of money. And though we splurged on the tub, everything else was pretty basic and low cost. We used our second bathroom in our house as the only bathroom for 2 years and now that we have completely gutted and renovated this one we haven’t used the other bathroom. That will be our next big project! So stay tuned for that one around the end of Fall 2015. Here is the dramatic before and after of our upstairs bathroom! Like I said, it was unusable. The hardwood floors hiding underneath that disgusting linoleum were destroyed from leaky pipes. The walls were covered in PLASTIC tiles, not to mention we wanted a full bath upstairs and this was only a half bath. So out came EVERYTHING! The floors, the plumbing, the electrical, etc. We wanted this bathroom to be super cozy, warm and cottage-like. So after we red...
