Which Would You Rather: Bath or Shower?


Let’s talk dream bathrooms. His and hers sinks are obvious. Heated floors, of course, and toss in the heated towel rods, too. A vanity would be great, to avoid leaning over the sink while applying makeup, and inevitably soaking my blouse. And why not throw in a sound system and flat screen while we’re at it?

The only thing left to decide is (drum roll please): bath or shower? Let’s be realistic, most people don’t have the time to draw a bath and linger in soapy suds every day (as lovely as that sounds). Showers are more practical and time efficient.

So, which would you rather: a bathtub or a shower? Vote in our poll so we can settle this!

Luxury in Laos at Amantaka's Stunning Luang Prabang Estate

Photos Credit: Aman Resorts It wouldn’t be an Aman property without spectacular grounds, an unbelievably spiritual essence , or a UNESCO World Heritage address . Amantaka, located smack dab in the center of Laos’ UNESCO- protected Luang Prabang , has all three attributes. This resort is a true jewel of Aman’s expanding collection. I traveled to Myanmar and Laos recently and purposely made a stop in Luang Prabang just to experience this Aman. I’m only disappointed that I didn’t visit sooner.  Amantaka, so named after  tipitaka , meaning “the teaching of the Buddha,” has a trace of elegant transcendence. The 24-suite resort is indeed steps away from sacred Mount Phousi , Phra Bang, and the daily trek of monks who walk at dawn in silence to collect alms. I grew up on the Mississippi River , in Rock Island, Ill. I knew of the river's moods and might but always took it for granted. And yet I'd long wondered what it would be like to travel the Mississippi from source to sea — in a canoe. So, after a decade of imagining and a year of serious preparation, I and three other retired graybeards from suburban Chicago — Tim Clark, Tom Lobacz and Bill Baar — headed north in late May to put in at the Mississippi's headwaters at Lake Itasca, Minn. The river begins as a baby stream gurgling past 25 feet of stones that permit you to "walk across the Mississippi" which, of course, we do. A webcam allows people to watch the "walkers" from afar.
