“The hunger is back” – Arsenal fans react as Jack Wilshere is sent-off vs. Man City U23’s

Jack Wilshere saw red for Arsenal U23’s against their Manchester City counterparts on Monday night.

The 25-year-old was named in a strong Gunners side – which included Rob Holding as well as impressive youngsters such as Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson – at the Emirates Stadium and it’s safe to say the midfielder had an interesting outing.

In a search for important game time in a bid to return to full fitness following yet another injury setback last season, Wilshere’s evening last just 63 minutes as he was shown a straight red card after pushing City youngster Matthew Smith to the floor.

Reacting to what he perceived was a strong tackle from the City player, Wilshere momentarily lost control and sparked a mini scuffle between the two sets of players before being pulled away and ushered down the tunnel for an early bath.

This incident marred what was a promising showing from Wilshere. He looked good on the ball and even registered an assist for one of Eddie Nketiah’s goals as the Gunners ran out 4-3 winners in north London.

How this affects Wilshere’s chances of forcing his way back into Arsene Wenger’s first-team plans remains to be seen but there was a split reaction among fans on Twitter…

The good….

The bad…
